Blood and Steel

Dear bloggie,

I can't remember the last time I seen a comic of this caliber... Maybe the 1st time I read Full Metal Alchemist...

Anyway, "Blood and Steel" is a wuxia comic, not really manga/manhwa as it's hong kong one. I understand the the comic is actually an adaption of the novel version which current is at volume 10. The comic however is onli at volume 3. So far, the storyline resolves around Yan Heng, the most junior student accepted into the inner circle of Qing Cheng clan. Yan Heng life however turn upside down when Wudang clan arrived and purged/slaughter the entire Qing Cheng clan. Yan Heng escaped with the aid of Jing Lie, a survivor of another clan that been purged by Wudang. Together they set of on a journey for vengeance.

So far, there been quite a few fights but the most amazing one was the leader of Qing Cheng vs Wudang 2nd in command. This sword duel really put Star Wars lightsaber duel to shame... However, my only complain is the super underpowered state of the main character Yang Heng. He's practically cannon folder. He barely learn any of the Qing Cheng inner martial art, and most Qing Cheng masters got slaughter by Wudang. How the hell is he gonna take revenge? Well, guess that what so appealing about this comic... The growth of a martial artist... From cannon folder to master... The path of blood and steel he must undergo... Me likely like...

This is one of those times, I wished I knew how to read Chinese. Can read the novel instead of waiting for the comic which will probably take forever to catch up with the novel. Finding translation for the novel, but no luck...

Invictus

Dear bloggie,

"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

- Invictus, William Ernest Henley"

Bucket List

Dear bloggie,

Wat is a bucket list? Well, it's supposed to be a list of things one wanna do in his life before one's well... kick the buckets... Cutesy name noes?

A REALLY FANTASTIC movie... really... While the plot is rather predictable... 2 man about to kick the bucket, decides to make the best of whatever time they have left to do the things they really wanted to do in their life. In the process, finds the courage to do the things they dared not to do. The movie was a fun ride, funny yet thoughtful. Great acting by both veteran actors, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. A highly recommended to put in ur bucket list "To Watch Movie"...

Movie marathon

Dear bloggie,

Just bought myself a few dvds to make it through this weekend and public holidays...

1. Cowboys Vs Aliens [Watched]
2. Crazy Heart
3. Sunset Limited

Yesterday watched Cowdung vs @$$lien... I was expected a action movie that at least entertaining to watch visually especially with Bond, 13 & Harrison Ford... Wat a utter garbage... The script and direction of the movie was so f*ckin terrible I could not stand but fast forward to get to some action scene. And the disappointing action scene... OMG WTF! The onli memorable part is probably when Bond activate his arm wrist alien gun for the 1st time... The rest is a BIG YAWN...

Anyway, I'll start on my 2nd movie soon... The Sunset Limited... Never heard it before but it was really the description of the movie that caught my attention:

"THE SUNSET LIMITED is a searing two-character drama that mixes humor and pathos while examining the relationship between strangers who are brought together by desperate circumstances. Set in a New York tenement apartment, the story focuses on two very different men – a deeply religious black ex-con (Samuel L. Jackson) who thwarts the suicide attempt of an asocial white college professor (Tommy Lee Jones) who tried to throw himself in front of an oncoming subway train, The Sunset Limited. As the one attempts to connect on a rational, spiritual and emotional level, the other remains steadfast in his hard-earned despair. Locked in a philosophical debate, both passionately defend their personal credos and try to convert the other."

Very very "Before Sunset" like... I suspect it's a movie with onli 2 characters b*cthin the whole way through like "My Dinner with Andre" hence why I didn't watch it first coz I was rather sleepy last nite and need something more adrenaline rush rather than a heavy dosage of philosophy.

For the 3rd movie, I actually wanted the sport movie "Miracle" but could not find it. So I was teetering between "The Wrestler" or "The Blind Side". I however finally came across "Crazy Heart" and was attracted to "The Harder the life, the sweeter the song" catchphrase for this movie.

So tat's all... time for my round 2...

Anyway to end tis post in a discorded manner, here's a song tat I been hearing quite frequently in the radio lately

Life for yogies 101

Dear bloggie,

"If I can choose, I want to die when while exercising... Then I will die happy..."

Sometimes, wisdom comes and slaps you across the face when you least expected it. For me, it occurred while I was soaked in sweat, sore at my shoulders and puffing for air... My yoga instructor gave up her thoughts on her preferred way to kick the bucket. Many of u was thinking like me, "Wat a health nutcase freak". But she explained, she rather die while exercising then die lying on the bed due to disease. She rather die trying to pushing herself to the limit tat to die doing nothing.

Death is something unpredictable after all, you can simply drop dead any moment... Your heart just suddenly gave up, a lorry suddenly ram into your room, you just suddenly stop breathing... She told her experience on flirtation with the grim reaper. A surfboarding trip in Bali, she was sweep away by the waves... Was drowning under water... She kicked and push to get to the surface but was in vain, and she thought at that moment "She was thankful to god, she was going to die this way... Die doing something" when she just on the verge of giving up... Then she saw a glimpse of her surf board, and despite her exhausted body, she fought her way towards her surf board and the surface...

Having flirted with the grim reaper too, I can understand her point of view. Life is something we often take for granted... We always think, there is tomorrow. Truth be told, what we have is only this moment. So we ought to make full use to this moment... You wanna live forever?

Quote of da day...

Dear bloggie,

"Two days later the miracle was made complete. My boys defeated Finland to win the gold medal, coming from behind once again. As I watched them out there, celebrating on the ice, I realized that Patti had been right. It was a lot more than a hockey game, not only for those who watched it, but for those who played in it. I've often been asked in the years since Lake Placid what was the best moment for me. Well, it was here - the sight of 20 young men of such differing backgrounds now standing as one. Young men willing to sacrifice so much of themselves all for an unknown. A few years later, the U.S. began using professional athletes at the Games - Dream Teams. I always found that term ironic because now that we have Dream Teams, we seldom ever get to dream. But on one weekend, as America and the world watched, a group of remarkable young men gave the nation what it needed most - a chance, for one night, not only to dream, but a chance, once again, to believe." - Herb Brooks
