Heavy Rain

Dear bloggie,

How I wish I got a PS3...

Why u ask?

To play tis game:

From the preview I seen, I can best summed up tis game as... "Indigo Prophecy V2". This game has no connection wat so ever to Indigo Prophecy in terms of storyline, but in terms of gameplay... one can say it's a polish version of it. Yea, the buttons mashing, the heavy storyline, the colorful characters and the mundane tasks when playing the game... However in terms of graphic, well... it been almost 5+ years since and the graphic have come a long way. Almost like ur watching a movie instead of playing a game... From wat I collected, another c00l feature of the game is the storyline is not linear. Meaning, what u do now will have an impact in the storyline ahead... Hence the replay value and not to mention the unique playing experience (What I experience is different from ur). The storyline is quite dark from wat I gathered...

A rough sample gameplay:

Amazing really... Wish they were more tis kinda games. I just wished they make a PC version but I think by the heavy graphic specs, I doubt one will come out...

Health or wealth?

Dear bloggie,

Health or Wealth?

Perhaps one question tat we all asked ourself atleast once, noes? Do we want to be healthy or wealthy? My personal observation is most of us (people tat I know) would probably tend to choose to be wealthy rather then healthy... Their logic(I think) is when ur wealthy u can buy health...

Is this logic right or wrong, I think I would stand on the fence on tis one... But I do agree it's hard to be healthy when u dun have $$$... But I do think we dun necessary need to be "too" wealthy in order to be healthy. Mostly to be healthy I think, requires "knowledge" & "discipline".

Knowledge... as they say dun play hard, play smart... Simple things such as eating a more balanced diet can have a tremendous affect on one's healthy... Good sleeping habits... Good hygiene habits... Effective and time efficient exercises... Proper posture... Knowledge is perhaps the best thing one can invest in to get a great healthy...

As for discipline, what is the use of knowing, when we don't practice it? For instance, I may know all best exercises that take just 30 minutes to do, but if I'm too f*ckin lazy to drag my @rse up the sofa to do it, all is for naught noes? What is the use of knowing the best healthy food if we don't eat it? So what if I know drinking just a can of beer a day would result in me gaining 7.5kg of fat in a year, when I can't resist the temptation to not drink it?

So I say... "Knowledge" & "Discipline", essential to be healthy (also applies to a lot of other things)...

Still, coming back to the the main question... I think the answer to this question can be found in another question which is:

"What do u want from ur life?"

You want to live long? You want to enjoy the riches of the world? It really comes down to each person... No right, no wrong...

As for me however if one was to ask me what I would choose, I would probably say "50-50" (I'm after all a believer of the middle path). After all, why do we want to be healthy and wealthy in the first place? So we can live a happy and fulfilling life noes? How can we enjoy our life when we are rich but always ill? Or vice versa? Hence I think both elements are essentially important... But I have to admit I'm leaning towards healthy more as I believe, we still can be happy when we are healthy but not wealthy... After all, the best things in life are free... Noes?

2011 Retrospection

2011 in a nutshell...

Dear bloggie,

It been a rather normal year for me... Nothing really notable...

Well, except joining my 1st boot camp, climb up batu caves, visited bukit tinggi, ran 42K... and learn a lesson or two on unrequited feeling...

So here is my 2011 resolution and how I fared...

1. Run 3 10K
Yupe... Orange Run, KL Marathon and KOTR (Actually 16K)...

2. Clock 10K in < 55 mins
Nay, best time was 1 hour 4 minutes... Sad :(

3. Run 1 half marathon
Putrajaya Nite Marathon...

4. Run 1 full marathon
Penang Bridge International Marathon... The highlight perhaps of my running career...

5. Muscle gain 2.5kg
I don't really think I hit this goal... My weight after my marathon has taken a sudden dip to around from 66kg+ to 65kg level... Maybe due to fat loss, but I think the marathon took it's toll on me...

6. SCJP
NATO

7. Tryout 3 Hobbies
Only tried out 1 new hobby, bowling...

8. Need clothes inventory
Yea, nothing really notable here...

9. Ask "her" out
Yes, asked her... a few times to be exact... Rejected...

Running Goal

Dear bloggie,

Having achieve perhaps, one of the most respected achievement a runner can do... ie: finish a marathon... I have been pretty unmotivated...

Sure, my mind is still in cloud 9 and my body is still under "Repair"... But I been thinking on what's next on my running list. So after some consideration, I decided it's time play something more into my alley... Between speedster or stamina monster, I would say my natural ability leverage more towards speedster. After all, I excel more in short distance fast runs instead of long slow runs since my high school days.

Since running short distance like 100M is outta the question, I decided I would aim for 10K (a balance between speed and stamina run) for the whole of next year. My ultimate goal... 45 minutes. A bit too ambitious I think, but the goal is just a destination... It doesn't matter if I managed to reach there, it's just a point which I built my starting point from. However my 1st sub goal perhaps is beat the 10K time of an old classmate of mine (49 minutes).

PBIM 2011 Here I come!!!

Dear bloggie,

Just less than 24 hours to go...

Will be heading for the greatest run of my life. I hope to be able to see the limits of my heart...

I aim for a 5 hour 30 mins finish... But I really unable to predict my timing, possibility may end up 6 hour + finish. Most important goal however is to finish my virgin marathon...

I'm very nervous... Alot of questions is in my mind... Had I train enuff? Had I carbo load enuff? Can my body take it? Can my mind take it? Do I have wat it takes to cross 42K?

Ultimately, it comes down to one thing... Trust in myself... And if I could not do so, then I must trust in what I have endured, survived and overcome through my life... And should I am not "strong" enuff to cross the finish line, I can onli go down fighting with a "BANG!"

Dear bloggie,

Ever wait 1/2 year for a episode of Gundam? Well, seems like the release for each episode Gundam Unicorn is 1/2 a year!!?

Am I happy? No...
I'm f*ckin addicted to it...
It is gonna be worth the wait? Most probably...

The animation, direction, plot, pace... For me, it's a level up above all other Gundam series I seen so far...

And the idea of a Gundam equipped with a NTD (New Type Destroyer) system is simply creative.

I just wishes they had tis in Gundam Seed, I so want to see Kira's face when his f*ckin spam funnel attack kena hijack...

Anyway, episode 4 looks VERY promising...

Tiger & Bunny

Dear bloggie,

An awesome anime I been watching...

Think heroes rojak with reality tv. The city of Sternbild City is protected by NEXT (Superpower Mutant la) called "Hero" which compete against each other in a reality TV called "Hero TV". "Hero" will earn points based on their deeds during their air time in the TV.

The story resolves around Kotetsu Kaburagi, whom is the veteran (or perhaps past his prime) Hero called "Wild Tiger" which has the ability to increase his strength by 100 times for 5 minutes. Kotetsu finds himself forced to pair up with the newest newbie hotshot Hero to Hero TV, Barnaby Brooks Jr (Nicknamed Bunny by Kotetsu) whom happens to have the same power as him.

Story wise, I find the reality TV element of the story quite creative. I mean with the amount of reality TV sh*t we are feed nowdays, it's a rather funny mockery that even "fighting crime" is "reality tved". Also, each hero is "sponsored", hence they need to wear some costume with the company banner in them to advertise during their TV time. While the Kotetsu and Barnaby partnership story is rather expected, two stubborn people with different personality that clash head at the start then start to warm up and trust each other. The 1st half of the series is more light hearted, and focuses more on the partnership between Kotetsu and Barnaby. The 2nd half however start to raises some darker elements of "Hero" and "Hero TV". While the ending is left quite alot of loose end (Possibility for a sequel?), it's a really enjoyable anime overall...

A action + comedy anime, a well recommended watch for anime lovers...

Reset

Dear bloggie,

It's time to stir the pot a bit. I initially wanted to build muscle till my weight hits 70kg, but I decided to change my goal from a muscular body to an athletic body instead.

Training wise, will probably have a more balance schedule for weights, cardio and Pilates/Yoga. I aim to reduce my weight from my current 66kg to 65kg... Meaning shedding more fat and maybe gain a bit of muscle if possible. This means, I need to start bucking up my eating habits.

I will move my focus in weight training to mainly 3 body weights exercises: pushup, chinup and squat (fitball). Then add more core focused compound exercises. Need to discipline myself to at least do cardio 3 times a week. No changes to my regular pilates and yoga sessions.

Why I decided to change my goal. Mainly cause I think I sort of loss myself during my quest to up my physical for my running hobby. I think it's better to have a all round body rather then the incredible hulk body. I also have concern on my healthy due to my rather high cholesterol level. I wan to be healthy, not just look healthy... And my intuition says the best way to get there is via the "Middle Path"...

PNM 2011

Dear bloggie,

I experienced the longest 1K in my entire running career... Mcjesus...

Overall, a well organized event with one major complain/mistake... The organizer screwed up as they distribute 42K finisher tshirt to non 42K runners. I got one also despite running 21K onli. I expect alot of 42 finisher to be b*cthin soon in facebook coz most likely not enuff t-shirt for them. I'm not sure if it's the organizer fault, coz I think the people distributing it are volunteers tat aren't from the organizer side. Other complains or constructive criticism is perhaps

1. The lack of a proper goodie bag.
2. Rather far distance marker in the route, each water station is 3K from each other. Rather hard for ppl like me tat dun have cool iphone gps to calculate pacing.
3. No pain spray at water stations. I think quite alot people will cramp at around the last 2 water station, so I think make sense to have tis.
4. Paper bib. Well, lucky today no rain... else I dun think the bib will endure it.

Ok, I b*tched the bad, now the good...

1. Water station every 3K, Awesome
2. Cheering team, Having people cheer u one is a very motivating
3. Water, 100 Plus, Watermelon, Banana. I have to say the kudos at the variety of refreshment they prepared at the water stations.
4. Spiderman, The Hulk, Batman, Superman. These superhero were perhaps a surprise along the route. Cheering and giving high 5 to the runner.
5. Small hifi placed at certain quite quiet part of the route, char khan loud songs gives u perhaps a temporary distraction from the pain.
6. Water sprinkler. A dude dressed in a clown outfit was firing water at the runners to cool em down using what looks like to me like a odd looking water gun.
7. One of the organizer boss, Anand aka Orange Man standing in the middle of the route at around 500m from the finish line giving high 5 and encouraging the runner, says a lot on the organizer of this event.
8. Running with the majestic views of the buildings in Putrajaya is perhaps a experience I won't forget.

Moving on to my personal running experience, the 21K route reminds me of my nightmare KOTOR 2008 run. Damn a lot of hilly route. For this run, my plan was to experiment a few things like 7 min perK pacing, carbo loading, pre run hydration, and running strategy. My plan was to run the first 10K at a 7 min perK pace non stop before taking a 5 minute break, then continue the 7-8 K at the same pace before taking another 5 minute break before dashing the last remaining K. I sadly f*cked up big time... I managed onli a 9K non stop at a hour timing. Like in the sunway run a few weeks ago, I ran outta gas at the 15K mark. I had to dig hard to tank the remaining 6K. My forefoot was hurting for every step I take after the 15K. I had to change my running style to my old one which have a longer stride. The 3K to the last water station seem to take forever. After the 18K mark, I had to again change my running plan as my forefoot was really hurting. I had to do quick dashes for 4-5 minutes before taking a 1 minute walking break. Repeat and rinse. I think I cut quite a lot of people at the final 3K as a lot of people also habis minyak de and was walking. When I saw the 1K left sign, I was like "Thank god!". But as I dig out every remaining glycogen left in my body to finish the 1K, the finish line was no where in sight. I was thinking, WTF? Why does running tis last 1K feel longer than running the 3K at the start? Then when the route make a sharp right turn, I finally saw the finish line... OMG!? It tat really 500-600m? I saw Anand and he gave me a high five. I could taste the finish line... Then I felt it... My left calf cramped up. F*CK! Lucky for me, I still could run, but just couldn't open my stride long. Had to take small steps again. Every step, send a sensation to my forefoot. It felt like everything was running on slow motion... One step at a time, I neared the finish line. When I crossed the line, I was really worn out... Didn't even energy to raise my hand in triumph for the cameras. Probably will have 1/2 death pix of me... :(

Carbo loading and hydration strategy was okay but I need to tweak my eating schedule couple of hour pre marathon, as I fell hungry during the run. I recon a full marathon
which will last longer will make me feel even hungrier. Probably need take a small snack to eat before the run to curb this problem.

My time? 2 hour 24 minutes... 9 minute out of my goal time of 2 hour 15 minute. But a 6 minute improvement from my last 1/2 marathon run. Am I happy on my time? Frankly speaking, a bit happy coz I think the route is more tough compared to Penang Marathon which is less hilly. Things however dun look very encouraging for my 42K tat I will be doing in 1 month + time. I need to go back to the drawing board and figure out a more suitable pacing + running strategy for my full marathon...

Dear bloggie,

Just taken my blood test results... A huge sigh of relief. Doctor say test show ok results with some concerns. My iron and bad cholesterol level is above the borderline. Doctor asked me to eat less egg yolk... WTF!? I personally dun like tis doctor, prefer the female one but she not it... Diu...

So, the mystery of my high blood pressure is probably due to tis cholesterol... Can't believe I'm still consider "fat" with all the exercise I'm doing... Guess my eating habits needs abit of refactoring...

Pre PNM 2011

Dear bloggie,

In less than 12 hours, I'll be running my 2nd 1/2 marathon... 21K of pure suffering estasy. My goal time is 2:15, try to shave of 15 minutes of my 2:30 benchmark time from PBIM 2010 last year... Maybe a bit too ambitious but have to take into account last year heavy rain may cause me some time and my recent encouraging 16.8K run time...

The PNM vest is perhaps too simple (or rather dun have any) design?

Looks abit too tight on me, feel like wearing a singlet... I ditched my usual "L" size here goin for "M" coz so far tis year, keep getting oversize vests mana tau... :(

Then placing ur hands on the floor just beside ur hips, u lift urself off the ground using ur hands. Improvement

Dear bloggie,

They say "Old dog can't learn new trick"... I dunno about how true that statement is la... but tis old geezer managed to improve himself in Pilates.

Yea, managed to regain my core to the level I think it was 1/2 year ago after I think around 10 sessions de. Last wed class, my pilates instructor gave me a pat in the head stating I'm very diligent (watever tat means), says she can really see I'm giving it my all when doing the exercises. Today, while by the end of the class my core was still "crying", I find myself able to cope with the class (till 1/2 way) without the need for my core to go into overdrive mode. The instructor even make a comment to a guy beside me tat was doing the criss cross exercise improperly to copy how I do it (Yea, I'm proud of my criss cross since I dumped crunches for this a long time ago).

Sometimes things happen for a reason... I was quite unhappy when my normal pilates class got cancelled 1/2 year ago... But having lost my regular dosage of pilates, I come to appreciate it more. I'm just grateful tat I have the chance to do pilates...

#Note: There is actually a research done that proven Criss cross (aka Bicycle Crunches) have higher muscle activation compared to the regular crunches. Besides that, the criss cross also works out the obliques... So why waste time on regular crunches when u can work out ur rectus (6 pack abs muscle) and obliques at one go?

Nin Peh NPE Highway Eh Ong 2011

Dear bloggie,

Just survived KOTR 2011 16.8K run. Clocked a 1 hour 40 minute... Meet my goal to run a average 6 min perkm pace.

I remember 2 years back when I ran my first KOTR in Shah Alam. Till today, that run is without a doubt the worst run I ever ran. Clocking a 1 hour 30 mins + for a 10K... Really char... Last year I was looking forward to buried this bad run but mana tau cancel tim the ran. So KOTR continued to be a bad spot in my running history. When I heard tat KOTR was being revived tis year, I was so glad I finally had the chance to take revenge.

Ok, my run start at 6.45am, but the road to Sunway Piramid was all closed starting from 5am. Since I dun wanna go there and wait 1 hour + doing nothing, I decided close mah close loh... I park opposite sunway piramid at the shop lots there. Anyway, I had problem sleeping (Yeah, having same problem from recent runs also)... But lucky I sleep afternoon from 2pm to 6pm de since I exhausted from gym, so atleast got in a few hours of nap. I drag myself from my house to sunway piramid but found the route from Subang Parade to Piramid tutup. So I had to use the hanging bridge route instead. Lucky, the shop lot area alot of parking... Park my car and bla to the start point. Then I felt a urge to "piss"... Tiu lor I thought, too late to go find toilet de coz gonna start de. Somemore is 16.8K (maybe a 2 hour run), can't hold piss that long one. Decided to gamble on the route got portable toilet or petrol station toilet.

So normal "3, 2, 1... Peeettt"!!! Start race lor. Alot of chicks (All sweaty n wet... Ok, I know I overuse tis joke de), even the 16.8K category... Nice field day for eye... 1st K was pretty slow due to heavy traffic, normal la coz all people at start raging to go fast... After 2nd K, managed to a slightly higher 6 min perKm pace, slowly make up for my slow 1st K. Have a water station every 3K mark (DAMN GOOD!!! KUDOS). Every station somemore got portable toilet, but I decided not to go coz all full so risk "paip bocor" for some time. A very vibrant group of people running tis run tis time around. Got someone run wearing pajamas (damn fast he run), got other wear leopard... LOL.

I ran a consistent run, stopping and walking onli at water station till the 12K mark... I saw portable toilet empty, make pitstop... 2-3 minute pitstop, wanna broom out of toilet but when hit to paip to wash hand... CB... No water... Had to run with "dirty" hand... Lucky not far, the water station, use the drinking water from cup to wash hand instead... LOL

My stamina finally hit the wall at the 13K mark. Decided to take my walking break which I originally plan at the 10K mark but managed to drag my body another 3K. I was ahead my planned pace by 6 minutes... So decided to cash in this time advantage to recover my leg, lungs n heart. RNR by walking for 5 minutes. Alot people potong me here... *Sigh* Time out time out de, continue running. My shin starting to sore, and dunno why my shoe feel damn hot at the sole area... Overheat due to stepping too much? Ran slower due to no gas, but somehow my time still 2 minute ahead my planned pace time. At final water station, drank ALOT of water... dehydrated de coz feel thirsty (Next run need plan water consumption better to avoid tis)... The final 1.8K feel like the longest 2K I ever ran... I keep asking, why I still dun see the piramid one, onli 1.8K left shd can see de mah, kanne... I breath a sigh of relief when I FINNALY saw the tunnel (infront of the piramid one). Crossing the tunnel gave me a headache due to the dark and glaring yellow light... dunno why, feel giddy... Lucky I tanked through it and just 200m from the finish line I saw the big timer was "1 hour 38 minute xx seconds"... OMG!!! I thought, I muster the last of whatever I had left and push ahead to cross the line before the 40 minute mark. I managed to cross the line with 30 secs to spare... WOOT!!!

The best part of the run however is probably when I was running on the NPE highway. The highway kena tutup for tis run, so ur running ontop of the highway on the elevated road and pass the highway toll on the car lane. The feeling is damn song... Feels like "Nin peh NPE Highway Eh Ong"... Wakakaka... Really feel like my father own the NPE one coz all NPE is closed for me to run on it.

Finish run de, go collect medal. Grab a few bananas (x4) to replenish lost carbs... Later regret eat so much banana coz at back got Nestle Finesse Cornflakes to eat. Overall a very organized run, every 1K got put board so runner know. One water station per 3K, I very like... Post run medal distribution, flow very well. Sponsor food and drink are placed further behind from finish line so no traffic after finish line. Pre run, bib and vest collection in Sunway Piramid also very organized.

If I had to b*tch will probably b*tch bout the vest onli. I fail to understand why got size limit on vest size during registration. I mean u asking size so u can produce tis much rite? So why must there be like a limit to "M" size? As if the vest is already produced and now is who fast who get...?

Another complain I heard (not me), is the color of vest. This year, got 3 different color design for both male n female. The color you get is based on first come, first get basic. Means, they will first release color 1... When finish color 1 size "M", will onli release color 2 size "M". Quite a lot of people not happy with this coz, they can't really get the color they want unless they come at the time when the color they want is available. I didn't get the color n size tat I wanted for my vest. Color I dun so kisah la, but size matter coz it will affect ur running.

Overall... A great run, my hats of the organizer and all runners for tis KOTR... Till next year KOTR...

Run Forrest, run...

HxH 318

Dear bloggie,

I seen alot of manga... ALOT...

But the latest stunt Togashi pull in HxH 318... It's lazy, yet at the same time pure brilliance...

8 outta 15 pages for this chapter is nothing but blackness and dialog box... Talk about "super" lazy... The darkness represents Cell "The King" that already lost his sight due to the poison that infected him. The repeated use of "Are you there?" across this 8 pages expresses "The King" feeling towards Komugi as he knows his end is near.

"The King", a chimera ant born as the pinnacle of all beings... To stand and rule above all being... A tyrant that tramples at everything... Yet he forms an unlikely attachment towards a normal blind human gal named Komugi. He bested the best fighters tat the human race send to assassinate him, and even endured a Rose (Sorta like Atom bomb). But at last, fall towards the poison in the "Rose".

Perhaps a fitting end for this f*cked up Chimera Ant arc for HxH...

ESG Explosion

Dear bloggie,

As u all probably have heard, ESG went kaboom... I find it hard to believe I was there just 6-7 hours before the incident. Luckily no one was really hurt, but the thought of if the gas leaked just 6-7 earlier, I wonder wat fate await me when I was innocently sipping my cup of coffee.

Anyway, kinda "odd"... ESG will probably be closed for quite sometime for repairs... And I just happened to get to visit it one last time before it's hiatus...

Espresso bar & bake shop

Dear bloggie,

Yea, you can see the title above...

When I saw "Espresso bar & bake shop", I was like WTF!?

Where I saw tis u ask? At a small tiny shop in Empire Gallery called "Whisk".

I finally had a coffee break there today, after for quite sometime wanted to satisfy my caffeine addiction there but always no place seat one.

This tiny "espresso bar" is located before the supermarket section at the G floor. A rather small shop, with rather limited seats (Think got 4 small & 1 long table inside + 1 medium table outside). I have heard rave reviews from blogs about the cakes here, so I been gunning to at least try it once.

And I wasn't disappointed. The Hummingbird cake (aka Banana cake) was really good. The cake texture really taste different from those normal banana cake's I eaten... And the icing... *Drools*

Damaged my wallet RM11.90 for the rather big piece of cake and Rm7.50 for an Americano. I however have to admit, the cake is definitely worth the $$$. Next time, will tryout their famous Velvet cake & Macarons... Also their "old fashion" milkshake

In love again...

Dear bloggie,

"Have you ever heard a joke so many times you've forgotten why it's funny? And then you hear it again and suddenly it's new. You remember why you loved it in the first place - Will Bloom, Big Fish"

I think tis quote applies to a lot of things in life. For me, I find myself falling in love again... With Pilates...

It been a good 1/2 year since my regular pilates class got replaced due to lack of attendees. But recently, having rejoined a pilates class for a special replacement Pilates class on Merdeka... My former Pilates instructor ignited again my feeling for Pilates. I recalled why I loved it in the 1st place. The soreness around the stomach, hip and butt, the technique, the concentration...

Having lost my touch and sense due to lack of practice, I was determine to regain what is lost... my core strength. Not much option though, as even other branches of my gym wasn't offering Pilates class at the 6.30pm+ slot. The only viable option for me was a class in the Puchong branch. I decided to take a blind leap of faith by attending this class at a gym and instructor that was unfamiliar to me. No regret there, while the instructor was not as technical as my 1st sifu... her class was enjoyable. Today another old Pilates class reopen at my gym. I attended her class a few times before and her class is tough but I guess she was busy with other things so her class was temporary removed from the rooster. Her class today was as usual brutal, but I noticed one thing while I practice today. I'm not sure wat it is but I think it's "Passion". I can't remember the last time I feel so great when my abs is burning... 1/2 year ago, my mindset when I attended Pilates class was just to enjoy myself but today, I had tis desire to really push my body to the limit in Pilates. Perhaps it's inspiration derived from watching tis:

"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a different body."

Awesome...

Oren Charity Run 2011

Dear bloggie,

About 2 years ago, when I ran Centro run 2009, I clocked a 33 min for my 6K. Today I ran a awesome (Yea, yea, yea... Syok sendiri) 7K in 34 min 28 sec. Woohooo... Can you calculate the my improvement... Holy shit 34 - 33 = 1 min! Tat means, I ran the extra 1K in 1 min... Wahahaha... Anyway, jokes aside... I probably managed to improve my average pace to 5 min per km pace which I hope to be able to maintain for a 10K.

Overall, a rather flat route run. From wat the organizers said, got around 2200+ runners. Didn't see any familiar faces, most likely coz they run last week Run4It de.

For tis run, my actual target was 6 min perkm pace hence a 42 minutes finish time goal. With my shin pain resurfacing and with a recent shaky knee (Thx to my new addiction to Body Step), I didn't expect to be able to run a my max speed. Lucky tis time around, onli my shin sorta bother me, no shaky knee (Especially since I last nite stupidly gatal go join Body Step class some more).

My main goal for this race is to gauge my ability to maintain a fast pace in a short run. In tat aspect, I failed as I had to take 3 stops (around 1 min per stop) as I was unable to sustain tat pace. I started quite slow as a lot of traffic but I decided at around my 2nd Km, to turbo up instead of after the water station (Which is at the 1/2 way point). I ran like da wind... I dun think I ever ran so fast in a long distance run before... And nothing unexpected ran outta gas around the 3K+ mark. My ran went to holland after tat, my body already taking the toll of running the fast 2K, even running at my normal pace was difficult. I somehow still managed to complete the run with a f*cked up stamina. And when I stop my stopwatch, I was delighted to see I managed 34 mins. So happy... :)

My bubble however burst when the winners medal ceremony, the fastest runner time was a f*ckin fast 23 mins!!! That's like 11 minutes faster... And for onli a 7K race. By th gods of Maths, tat's a 23 / 7 = 3.3 min per km pace!!!! While I'm rather bummed at the CLEAR difference in ability, it's sorta makes me more committed to train harder.

As for organizer for this run, I can't say I seen nor have any complains I wanna b*tch about. No problem from start to end. Kudos...

Till the next run... Run on!!!

#Update: Discovered tat tis run is onli 6.3K... Sigh...

Captain Abu Raed

Dear bloggie,

Just watched tis movie a couple of hours ago...

Went to get my tickets for "Railways". Saw tis movie poster, so wat the heck... RM7 onli...

A first glance at this poster, one would make the assumption based on the kids and old man laughing, it's a jovial movie.... Don't be deceived by this poster... This scene in the poster is perhaps the only jovial part in the movie.

Bewarned, this ain't one of those typical Hollywood popcorn movie (Though I did watch this movie with a popcorn)... If I had to describe this movie, I would probably use the words "Realistic", "Human society", "The good and bad we human are capable of". Yes, it's a Jordan movie and I had to rely of the subtitles to understand the movie. Quite boring at some parts, I have to say due to the slow pace of this movie. But if you can endure the movie till the end, you will most likely like me be blown off by the mind blowing ending. While the ending ended in a positive note, I can't help but feel depressed at the mixture of good and evil climax scene.

A recommended watch for those that enjoy drama type movie and can endure some long boring scenes...

Kamen Rider OOO Finale

Dear bloggie,

Just watched OOO's finale... Bewarn! Spoiler ahead, stop reading unless u dun care...

U been warned...

Anyway, a rather epic ending for a Kamen Rider series... The only complain I have is the shitty boss fights. Uva after getting his complete form, gets pawned by Eiji is his Tatoba form... Wat a utter disappointment, even his Yummy gave Eiji a harder time than tis... Maki Vs Eiji + Ankh was also a rather lame affair. I was expecting a dogfight like the one Eiji and Ankh had, but instead Maki eat the dust with a Rider Blast!!!??? WTF, it's unthinkable for a Kamen Rider series to end without the trademark Rider Kick!!!

Boss fights aside, the finale was a rather good one in my opinion in terms of story telling. There were rumors tat the series was going to end on a cliff hanger like Decade, but I'm glad the series tie up most of the end nicely. All 6 Greed bites the dust including everyone's favorite floating hand, Ankh. Killing of Ankh really add more epic to what I consider is a very good Kamen Rider series. If I had to rate this series, I would say it's a draw with Blade... maybe better.

Why I say so... Here why:

1. The medal henshin gimmick. While most riders have multiple form, OOO has (5 x 5 x 5) + 1 forms. Normally this would be overkill since it may seem overpower with so many form. They however manage to intertwined the story with the medal. The Greeds (the baddies) are also looking for the these medal, hence a grab here, grab there tradeoff in medal by both sides. OOO never had the full set of medal hence never had full access to all of his forms, which limits him for overusing a particular form too much (Eg: Like in Kiva, which always spam his Emperor Form).

2. Greeds. The baddies themselves is quite well developed as characters. Instead of raging monster out to simply "destroy/conquer/etc the world", the Greed are out to regain their core medals. Each Greed is different, and it shows when even the Greeds fight among themselves when it comes to medals. The backstabbing Kazari, the motherly Mezool, the childlike Gamel, the hot headed Uva, the arrogant Ankh & the psychopathic genius Dr Maki...

3. Hero. Nothing special bout the guy behind the OOO mask background. Eiji is a guy tat in the past watch someone die infront of him, and now vows to do what ever he can so it won't happen again, blablabla... The really interesting part is when the Purple core medals awakens and choose him and Dr Maki as their host. Despite knowing the usage of the purple medals is slowly transforming him into a Greed, he chooses to continue using them in order to save life. In the last few final episode, everyone was on their seat when the preview showed him transforming into his Greed form.

Still the finale left a few things hanging... For starters, we still don't know for sure who the heck is the birthday cake nutcase, Kougami. Is Eiji still a Greed despite losing all of his core medals? Where is foundation X? Probably left hanging so the can continue to milk the series in movie forms. Anyway, it's been a awesome ride with OOOs... Next week the start of Kamen Rider Dickhead Fourze... HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOURZE!!!!

Run for thought

Dear bloggie,

And interesting question:

"What is the greatest praise a long distance runner can be given?"

Now, now, I bet I can guess the 1st thing tat comes into ur mind

"Fastest?"

After all, the whole purpose of running ur body, mind and heart out is to cross the finish line 1st noes?

There's another rather interesting answer for this question... It's "Strong". Strong!!?? Well, while the ultimate goal of running is to cross the finish line, is it not the story of the journey that we undertake to end which make running such an amazing thing? "Strong" enough to finish the race despite whatever odds stack against a runner... Let it be physical, mental or matter of the heart barrier...

Minimus Road Test Run

Dear bloggie,

My 1st 15 min test run on these babes was an awesome experience. Almost like barefoot running, except got the cushion protect your feet but can still feel the ground.

The interior was F*CKIN nice, and oddly while there's less padding in the heel area, I don't feel pain unlike my current NB shoe where when I first wore I can really feel pain due to less padding compare to my previous Nike one. Also running on these is like wearing sandal to run, damn lightweight. While I was initially worried by the rather tight feel near the plantar fascia area, but when I run dun feel it at all. Still running on these babes feel a bit odd, mainly cause feel like running barefooted but with a soft material wrapped upon ur leg like a 2nd skin. Best part, little shin pain... As there is no padding in the heel, it would be suicide to slam away on the ground, hence I adjust my landing to be lighter = less impact = less shin pain... Awesome...

One regret is I maybe brought wrong color design, the black and red is a bit too flashy (should choose the less flashy and more adaptable white blue one)... A lot of people keep seeing my shoe when I jog today... :(

Feet a bit sore at some odd places, so will not use this shoes yet for my long run yet. One danger of this shoe is tat running on em is f*ckin nice, you might overdo it... Hence I will ramp up training time on these shoe incremental so my leg muscles have time to adapt to it.

#It seems I overdone it indeed, sore feet

Spoilt myself

Dear bloggie,

Bought myself these...

"New Balance Minimum - Road"

Decided to spoil myself with tis rather expensive (RM 300) b'day gift to myself... A bit pricey but heck who else will buy for me if not myself.

This shoes comes with a rather amusing warning tag in the shoe box:

"Caution: This product increases the strain on the foot, calf, and Achilles tendon. Overuse of this product or use of activities outside of running and walking may increase the risk of sustaining injury.

This product should be introduced slowly into a running exercise routine. New Balance recommends limiting initial use to 10% of overall running workouts and very gradually increasing training time and distance."

This shoe is a "barefoot" transition shoe. To run barefooted, one will need to restrengthen the weaken leg (due to our excessive modern shoe padding) and tis shoe is a great in between shoe for those making the transition as the padding is a lot less than normal shoes but there is still there so you don't over do it too much to get injured instead.

There are 2 other designs, but I fell in luv with the red + black one at first sight. Also in terms of weight, very light... almost as light as New Balance light weight trainer sneakers. A rather cool feature of this shoe is it is design tat you can wear it without socks (interior well padded). Already look forward to taking this shoe to a spin this weekend... :)

Contradictions

What does it mean when u feel this burning sensation inside ur body? When u feel energy less... As if you can't even feel this body of urs anymore?

Weights, Yoga and Running... They're the ray of light tat salvaged my senseless and meaningless life... Yet, the reality is they contradict each other to a certain degree. I do weights to gain mass, yet running (especially long distance) will result in some muscle to get burn as well. Yoga lengthen one's muscle, yet weights shorten its. Like life, one contradict the other...

I did all 3 today... 3 hours gym... And I feel like shit right now... As if there is 3 rivers flowing across my body causing a chaotic tsunami inside. Everything is shaken upside down, right to left... I realized, I can't have all 3... Compromise must be made to balance it up, yet I just can't let go of all 3. As contradicting all 3 are, if one is to pick one as their major focus and make the other 2 the sub focus, it's rather ironic how the other 2 compliment the major focus. Take for instance...

If one aim to built mass, a nice dose of yoga helps to regain some flexibility while not extreme running helps to reduce fat %.

If one is to focus in yoga, non extreme weights help strength the body for some poses which requires some degree of strength while running is well... dun think it does any direct compliment to yoga (maybe help improve endurance?).

If one is to focus in running, high reps and low resistance weight training helps built slow twitch muscle (small size muscle) which aids in endurance running and yoga help built flexibility especially the legs to run in better form (longer stride, etc).

In short, one need to know wat is one's goal... I don't have a goal. Tat is why sometimes I feel when I improve in one, the other one I get sloppy... And when I try to do all 3, I end up like wat I am right now...

Fell the wind

Dear bloggie,

Just finished watching "Feel the wind"... A random j-movie I saw, bought and watched.

The story in short is about 10 japanese average joes (Ok, 2 ain't just average joes) and their road to Hakone Ekiden (Relay Marathon). A 10 x 20K relay marathon...

While the movie is quite char... But one thing tat it really captures well is the essence of running... I get inspired to run especially when I see the main actor run. Really, you can see the guy is a real runner by his running style.

The movie does bring up a quite interesting question... What is running? The spirit of running is portrayed through all 10 runners. Each displaying their own unique aspect of running, let it be to just finish the race, to set a record time, etc... But it all comes down to one single elements... "To push yourself through walls you never knew you could push through"

The movie however is flawed, we see that these 10 people changed from when they 1st started training to the real run itself, but due to the limited length of the movie, there isn't much space for a more detailed character development. Hence 10 main actors perhaps is a bit too much for the movie time. While there's a sense of teamwork among this 10, but with the main focus split into 10, you do feel a sense of disconnection. Almost 1/2 of the movie, the actors do nothing but run... Almost 1/4 of the movie is on the final relay marathon itself. There is perhaps, what I feel lack of plot as much time is spend on the training program that the runner went through... Jog, Cross country, etc. There's a hint of romance, but it never took off... Which is perhaps good...

Overall, I can onli give a so-so rating movie but I highly recommend you watch if your a runner as you will most likely enjoy it...

Classic song

Dear bloggie,

"Ni ce tau wo cai ten ni ma"...

Tis random tune that keep popping in my mind...

Heard tis song back in primary school days... Quite hard to find this song coz I dunno who the singer and song title is, only knew the singer is taiwanese and from early 90s. Lucky I can still remember the main chorus for tis song & got people post romanize title in youtube.

Do know why I can still remember tis song?

The 1st time I saw him singing tis song where he won the best song/singer award, my aunty remarked "He ain't handsome like the 4 heavenly gods (Aaron Kwok, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Jacky Cheong) but his songs are very nice".

Dammit, I also wanna take my guitar (tat already collected alot of dust) to walk on beach side, fall down while chase a scarf, stalk at the gal house window before banging my head on the wall like him. LOL

Fan death

Dear bloggie,

Since it been quite sometime since I blog anything informative or useful here, I decided to blog on something rather funny that I heard on the radio today.

There's this belief among South Koreans that if one ppl sleep in a room with the window and door closed and a electric fan place in front of the person face, that person can die. Some explanation for such thing is that the fan will blow the air away, and can lead to suffocation!? Other explanation include the fan will lead to hypothermia (whatever the fag tat is), or reduce our skin breathing... This is why most electric fans in South Korea comes with a timer and a warning label to "No place in front of face in a room with closed door and windows".

Ain't this a VERY useful thing to know...

Standing in the eyes of the world

Dear bloggie,

Standing in the eyes of the world - Ella

Pahit getir hidup... dan pengorbanan
Terpaksa dihadapi, demi kejayaan
Terdidik sejak mula, tabah berusaha
Tanpa cuba melangkah, tak kemana
Di mana kau berada
Pencapaian tak tiba dengan mudah

[Chorus]
Kini "Standing In The Eyes Of The World"
Hanyalah selangkah dari nyata
Keazaman membara dijiwa
Menanti saat bebas merdeka
Tiba masa kau melangkah gagah
Bersemangat ke arah matlamat sedaya upaya
Engkau terunggul
Wajar "Standing In The Eyes Of The World"

Harapan yang pernah terkulai layu
Kembali segar mekar bawah bayanganmu
Setiap manusia ingin berjaya
Namun tak semua miliki tuah
Engkau menghampirinya
Kesempatan telah pun tiba...

[Chorus x 1]

Hard to believe it been a good 13 years (1998) since I first hear tis song...

Woot!!!

Dear bloggie,

Yes... 173... Wohoo!!!

After a terrible spell of throwing shitty balls... Finally +1 level...

Wakakaka... Played 3 rounds today at KP (Klang Parade), got Ramadan discount so onli damaged me RM 14. 1st round, still like previous session, shooting suxor spinning balls... Still managed a 120 pts. 2nd round, try put in more strength in the throw... Result... 73 pts. Final round, decided to slow down every thing... Amazing result, the ball more spin than I throw with strength (still not spinning strong enuff). Manage a turkey (3 strikes in a row), and spare alot. My sparing especially the 7 and 10 pin improved alot de. So score is 173... I was stunned myself as I was aiming to equal my previous top score of 158, mana tau...

Now I know that this technique can pakai, need to practice so I can do this kinda form more often.

Chillout

Dear bloggie,

Went for a monk meditation session at Chillout, Subang Parade.

Only 2 monks (Spelly and Suke) went along with me to checkout this hangout. Located at Subang Parade, near the Parkson exit infront of the Empire Gallery. I have to say, my feeling when we first walked into this bistro was very positive... Especially with the leng lui's beer promoters standing at the bar counter. Fulamak anak bapak... Think I fartin? See tis or tis for urself (Smokin hot, especially the 1st pix center one)...

Anyway, the ambiance is not bad. We sit at the outdoor area (smoking area), coz we wanna see the live band. The beer promoter chick come but we didn't order any beer (Guiness Stout), but instead order cocktails coz got promotion for cocktail tat nite. Me and Spelly ordered Long Island Tea while Suke ordered a Blue Lagoon. We also ordered a rather delicious Margarita Pizza. As for booze, the long island was quite heavy for me... Spelly onli managed to drink 1/3 while according to Suke, his cocktail was nice and not too heavy. Suke wanted to go for round 2, but the beer promoters all balik de, so didn't ordered... :(

Also got live music, dunno wat name the band but get a thumbs up from me. Seems like foreigners to me, maybe Philippines but they even sang "Hijau" by Zainal Abidin. Sang quite alot of songs through the nite. As for crowd, sadly not much chinese leng lui. Mostly we saw foreigners lui. We left quite early (around 11.30) coz Spelly was already yearning for his Zzz due to his 1/3 booze? Maybe next week will go again coz Sunday got 50% of food and cocktail promotion.

Need a break

Dear bloggie,

I need a kit kat...

Feel worn out, like my very soul is dissolving into molecules. Took a jog at Taman Rakyat Andalas tis evening. Been almost 1/2 year since I last jog there. So fast time past... I still recall the days when I used to jog regularly there during my freelance era. Unlike back then, I felt heavy on my heart. I thought I couldn't get anymore confuse about life, but it seems things just get more and more confusing...

What, Where, Why, Who, How? I seem to have forgotten these question that used to haunt my thoughts... Asking myself these question, over the years... I built my own fortress of logic, philosophy, faith, ideals, feelings... Yet I realize they crumble and falter upon the great maze of contradiction of reality. It's feels as if I can't even take for granted simple thing such as what is white and black color anymore? What is black anyway? Color code #FFFFF? In the end, is the black I'm talking about here the same as the black you are thinking off when you read this? Things I feel, only exists when we create it in our mind. When we pour our emotion to someone, we give birth to "love". When we think of who created us, we give birth to "god". When we try to define what we know and don't know, we give birth to "reality". And here I was about to make my definition of reality "Reality is nothing but an illusion we conjure up in our mind" only to realize this statement is also applies to itself and ironic shoot itself on it's foot... Perhaps there is truth in the teaching of "Zen", which sorta goes "If you can explain Zen in words, then that is not Zen".

I feel like I need to hide away as a hermit away from all this madness. I just feel like swept away by the torrent around me. Being toss up and down by the waves till nothing really matters anymore. Feel so helpless, yet again so "void" from perhaps unnecessary thoughts. Even if this whole world is to end tomolo... I fear I would still feel apathetic towards it, and to certain degree perhaps welcome it...

I need a time out, a short break to realign myself to my center of gravity before my mind and soul really fly out of the orbit of being a human...

Spin, Spin, Spin..!!!

Dear bowling ball,

Dogdammit!! Why dun u spin one!? Niaseng...

Been trying to pickup the spinner bowling technique aka Helicopter/UFO ball. So far, still epic failure to throw this kinda ball. Actually wanted to learn hook ball one, but since in house bowling ball very hard to hook one and I no $$$ to buy one bowling ball, so I decided to learn spinning instead since they say normal in house ball can use for this technique.

The difference of spinning and normal straight shot is well, the bowling ball will spin horizontally in spinning lor. This shot unlike hook or straight shot which best aim is the 1-2 or 1-3 pocket, works best when strike the 1st pin directly. The spinning motion will have different domino effect on the pins when hit the 1st pin. However this technique from what I heard, has higher injury risk as the finger motion to spin the ball is quite taxing on the fingers compared to a straight or hook shot. It's suppose to be like throwing a dice finger motion, the fingers will end up in a high five finishing position after throwing the ball. This technique is quite popular in asia countries (especially taiwan) coz this technique was developed to counter the rather harsh lane condition (not properly oiled lanes = hard to hook) here. A strong point of this technique is due to the less contact of the ball with the lane, it's not so influence by lane condition.

So far I still struggling to use this technique. I still can't find a compromise between the power of spin and targeting. If my ball is straight, the spin is not powerful enuff, if my ball spin is gud, the ball target eat corner... I also have to downgrade my ball weight to 10 pounds one from my normal 13-14 pounds one, as spinners usually use 10-12 pounds balls coz it's harder to put a strong spin if the ball is too heavy. I have seen some people bowl using this technique and is in awe at the power of this shot. While it may lack the elegance of a hook shot, but the spinning ball hit the pin is like watching a tornado cross a town...

BHP Orange Run 2011

Dear bloggie,

Yea, joined my 3rd Orange Run at the curve tis morning. Time... A pathetic 1 hour 4 minutes... Same as last year... Sad case...

Comments on this year's Larian Jingga? A lot more runners, I feel. Tis is good and bad... Good, more chicks to kap, bad more uncivilized "Malaysians" during collection of goodies...

Same route as last year, I think I too slow 1st half, caused my time to SUX. Anyway, experimenting with smaller steps running style, have to say a rather slower pace, but with this change, managed to tank the whole 11K without stopping (with exception to drink at water station).

Goodies bag, ok la... RM 5 registration, wat can one expect wor. One change this year is no 100 plus, instead Gatorado sponsor. Complains, only one... I think the placement of the goodies bag, food and drink collection near the small route near Fitness First and The Laundry is a bad decision. Cause alot of jam when the runners all come to collect this things. Quite tulan at the "sakai" at the goodies collection place... I hope this doesn't become a custom at running events. Grab the things, then throw behind to distribute as if like war time. Just sad la... Just queue up to collect the thing la, no need be sakai go push till table also can collapse... Really WTF!?

Overall, like the prev editions, a good run + event. Kudos... Look forward for next year's one.

Different keyhole

Dear bloggie,

They say that we are actually looking at this world from a tiny keyhole... Having said that, I always pondered is these such thing as "the truth" or are they something that differs to people to people?

Got into a really "heated" argument with MFR on my political stance. I don't believe in any political gimmick, which also applies to democracy. I didn't vote during the previous election even though I was registered. I won't deny I have doubts if my actions is correct or not but I'm quite certain, I will repeat the same action if I was to go back in time in a time machine to the election day again.

If I had to justified my action, I probably can't. I can only say that is the way I feel. No math equation, no hard facts, just my gut feeling telling me to do so. Some may think it's silly to trust our whole life on gut feeling, but for me... If you can't trust ur gut feeling, what else can you trust? The best I can probably think of to describe why I'm a rather nihilist in political stuff is to ask you to read Animal Farm... you would probably see a close resemblance of me to "Benjamin the donkey" in the story.

I feel helpless for my lack of knowledge, for not being able to define what is right nor wrong. The definition in my mind now is "right and wrong" are merely something that exists inside of our mind. Everyone has their own right and wrong. Even those suicide bombers... To us, they nothing are crazy nutcases that is killing innocent lifes... but to them, they are fighting for "God". And can we really blame them? Based on their knowledge level and upbringing, dare one say they won't do the same if they were in their shoes? What I mean here is, if you were view them from their eye in terms of what they know, what they been brainwash to believe is right and wrong, and exclude what you think is right and wrong... What is more controversial perhaps is a dangerous thought that hit my mind, if what they doing is really wrong then why god didn't stop them? We all have our rationale for our action, yet the same thing could be said for these suicide bombers. I feel it's rather arrogant for us to think our action is more "correct" than these people action without even considering that angle of thought... I however have the same shortcoming...

So I b*tched about "right and wrong", what about "Justice", "Human Right", "Law", blablabla... Once my senior was driving his car in the parking lot and went against the one way street there. My junior "tegur" him say it's the "Law" of the road to not go against the one way road. I still remembered what his reply was... "Law can change one, coz it's defined by man". These big words... "God", "Justice", etc... doesn't the same apply to them? Are not these words, abstract ideas that meaning differ from people to people? Yet again isn't everything words the same to being with?

Life is contradicting... I'm bitter perhaps at my own lacking, perhaps too at the lacking of mankind... Which is why I'm so apathetic in life. Apathy is dead, they say... Perhaps I'm already dead... I don't want to think about it, and but I still do... And that depresses me...

Forget it....

158

Dear bloggie,

I woke up today, feeling like this is gonna be one of those mixed fortune days...

Went to office, she was back from her vacation. Just seeing her... mixed feeling...

Cleared 1 of my user story. Feel better, but then my collegue told me I code got bug... Amkhan feel.

Lunch was no better, alone eat. Go eat chat fan, a bit late so not many dishes left. My morale was super low. Went to tau keh soh to pay, she ask me wat drink I want. I see the table nearby where put soup one... no soup on it. Usually I would just take the chinese teh and end of story, but I just feel damn moody like I deserve a better day then this, so I ask if there is any more soup. The tau keh soh went back of the shop and pickup a rather big bowl of sup for me... Lesson learnt, ask for what you want.

Near 4pm, my team leader told us, we can depart for midvalley for team lunch de. She say she will phone to inform if she could make it for the predinner bowling game. My senior and his QA buddy left. My other team member still glue to their chair. I feel like "WTF? Get to cabut 4pm from work to have fun also dun wan...?" I dun care, just walk out of office.

Reach MV and went to the bowling alley. My senior was about to start the game, but I was just in time. My bowling form was at a all time worst during the last session, (hitting only 36 points due to change of bowling approach). And as indicator of the disaster that was to come, one my first throw... I landed to strong on my left leg and slip and fell on my approach. Very slippery the floor... Senior was laughing. Was hitting a rather stable 8-9 pins perframe score. Then she arrived with another of my collegue. Near the halfway of the game, form changed starting with a strike at the 5th frame. A double strike and a spare gave me the lead... Already won the game before I throw my final frame. Then the most amazing form I ever had, 2 strikes at the final 10th frame followed by a 7 pin. Total score, a high 158!!! Getting tis score is awesome feeling, but getting it infront of her... Priceless... Game 2, she also play but different lane. My form onli so-so got 108 points, my senior won with 118 points.

After the game, we went to Chilis where we were suppose to have our team dinner. A bit of chaos as the big people in our team wanted to combine tables so can sit the team (12 peoples) can sit together but the Chilis manager won't allow it. So we change venue instead to Tony Roma. A very "kenyang" dinner, I think I already quite full before my main entree was served. Sadly, she was sitting quite far from me. So a very mixed luck day for me... Has it's ups and downs like a roller coaster... But I think I will never forget tis day for quite awhile...

Dear bloggie,

Sometimes, I just wondered why can't this country just split itself into 2 so it can end this senseless fighting... Like a husband and wife keep f*ghting... Just divorce la... Then I realize if every time also split 2 when got difference, they won't be any thing left in the end.

I ponder upon the meaning of country, race, religion and humanity...

What is right and what is wrong? Perhaps only the wise or a fool dare answer...

Born To Run

Dear bloggie,

I was inspired to pickup a book and "actually" read it...

Anyway here's the book I read:

My thoughts on this book... I personally LOVE the amount of running information that has been jam packed into this 287 pages book. However I have to agree with some critics that the book could use a better editor. I find the flow of the story very unstructured... Sometimes it would break from the main story and go into a long sub story related to a character in the main plot, only to break into another sub plot. When the subplot is finished and the author continues with the main plot, I get the feeling like I been teleported from Earth to Mars then to Venus, before being teleported back to Mars and Earth again... It's ok for the first few times, but becomes rather annoying to read after it keep repeating itself in this way.

Enough of the bad points, moving onto the good points... I learn tons of things bout running that I never knew. There's alot of nutcases runner out there, and you'll be amaze by what these nutcases do to improve their run. As for the story of this book, it focuses on the author's long quest to find out are we human's "Born to run", which lead him into the remotes Copper Valley, Mexico to seek a hidden tribe of running people (Tamahumara). One things leads to another, the tale take a spins with the author participating in a race pitting the Tamahumara and a bunch of elite ultra marathoners. I'm not so sure if the story is a fiction or non fiction but from google, the characters and the running people are the real deal.

Overall an ok book, could have been better if it was structured better. A recommended read especially if ur into running.

New Rider

Dear bloggie,

The next Kamen Rider revealed...

Tada... Kamen Rider DICKHEAD JARHEAD...

OMG, The Riders motif is really getting further and further away from the original "Belalang" design. I seen alot of variations (Knight, Beetle, Peach, Spade, Hawk, etc), but Rocket Head!? And I thought 000's rider suit is f*ckin satu (or tiga) macam...

Well, atleast "Kamen Rider Fouze" cast seems to have alot of chicks.

Lack of talent

Dear bloggie,

Feeling a bit emo at the moment... Doubting myself more than ever...

Why am I so lacking in any talent?

Some will say I lack effort, but I ponder isn't talent and effort 2 different things? It's true that to fully realize one's talent, one need hard work but the question that bugs me is are everyone actually equal in terms of talent or it's there such thing as no talent?

Pain Free

Dear bloggie,

With the SCKLM just next week, I started running again... Against the advice of my doctor to take a break from any physical activity due to my neck injury. To be frank, my neck no longer hurts that much, but my right shoulder seems to suffer from a pull side effect from my neck injury. But the pain is bearable type one la.

As I b*tched about around a month+ ago, I been trying out barefoot running as my training regime for SCKLM. I ran a short 10 minutes barefoot jog before running my main run and I have to say the effects is astonishing. My running style during barefoot running is a totally different style, which I now tried to mimic when I run with my shoe. The outcome is, no more pain in my left leg's shin. My mimicry level is still not perfect as when I run barefooted, my pace while is slower than my usual one, I feel more in control of my breath.

I'll be trying to get my hands on a Vibram Five Finger shoes to continue my barefoot training. As for this SCKLM, I decided to lower my goal from cracking the 50 minutes barrrier to 55 minutes due to my neck injury which disrupted my training.

Compay Trip @ Bukit Tinggi

Dear bloggie,

Is worn out after attending my company's team building trip to Bukit Tinggi from yesterday to today. Mainly not tired by the exhausting crap we had to do there, but due to my neck injury. The injury seem to be getting alot worst, especially after I wake up from sleep, as I feel like my back shoulder region is drawn up. Maybe due to the muscle spasm, my neck muscle not working properly resulting in the push and pull anatomy of my neck and shoulder region to go cuckoo.

Anyway, back to the main topic. This year's annual team building event was held at Bukit Tinggi the a total of 200 ppl participating. Departure was from my office at Cybergagal at 7.30am. I decided to ask my father to drive me to work instead of driving myself as I didn't want to park my car in the Cybergagal outside parking area. Nothing interesting for the journey to the venue, mainly a boring bus ride with me suffering due to my stiff neck. Reached there around 10.30am.

First team building event was playing a couple of indoor games. One of a networking game, where u need to find people tat matches the criteria within the dumb questionable (Such as who has ever been bitten by a snake, etc), a key and lock searching game and puzzle matching. After this game, we were allowed a short break, so most of us walked around the French village area. Frankly speaking, big yawn. Dunno wat so special besides the village building design is ciplak French. Then we had our pretty decent lunch buffet. We then were given around 1 hour since there was problem sorting the team list due to absenteeism of some people. I follow some of my collegue to go to Japan Tea Village. After sitting a shuttle bus uphill to the venue and a short hike, was majorly disappointing by the "small" village.

Coming back to the french village for the next event, Explorace. Ultimately this "explorace" goes like tis, a team of 10 ppl have to find 5 checkpoints scattered around the whole Bukit Tinggi based on 5 photos. We can visit the checkpoints in any order except for the last one that needs to be visited last. The location in the pictures were easily identified but main problem was transport. You see, most of the venue required a shuttle bus to reach so with so many teams and so little bus, you can imagine the havoc that ensues. We decided to take one checkpoint tat was in the vicinity of the French Village first since the shuttle bus was fulled. Shooting bowling pin with paintball gun event. A guy our team was very at home with a paintball gun, so he did the sniping.

Next, we decided to go the japanese tea village checkpoint. We however had to split our team to 2, due to insufficient seats in the shuttle bus. I sadly ended up in team 2 that had to make the way to the japanese tea village (located uphill) on foot (Coz the shuttle bus schedule is every 1 hour 1 trip). A VERY hard hike, mainly due to the steep uphill route. Here we learn tat the bus schedule is LAN one, as alot of bus pass us by and our company people cheers us on when they say 4 sohais trying to make this crazy hike. Suffice to say, a 30+ minutes hike we managed to conquer this route. Again, we were cheered by the other company people that were already there waiting for the bus downhill. Team 1 tat departed earlier already done the checkpoint and was waiting for a bus downhill.

Sadly not enuff seat in bus again, split again to 2 teams, I ended in team 2 again which need to take a ride from a truck tat was going onli 1/2 way to the rabbit farm. We tumpang but had to continue the run downhill 1/2 way. Lucky while running downhill some more got shuttle bus appear tat not full. Go rabbit farm, saw my other team members tat were stuck in the event as the judge no pen to sign the form. I stuck into my jeans and can u imagine the odds? A pen in my jeans. Next we waited a while for bus again to go further downhill to horse ranch. No bus, our team leader decided to walk again!? This time everyone walked downhill, a good 30 minutes walk.

When I reached, my team leader and 2 other team mates already completed the game. Ugh, have to run back to the french village. 1/4 way to the rabbit farm, we spotted a lorry (random aunty and uncle) fulled with my company people at the back. We were lucky to get a free ride to the rabbit farm >_<. Quite dangerous, as 2 of us actually were hanging at the lorry front door side since no place de at the back.

At the rabbit farm came the LONG wait. No bus was insight, and got 3-4 teams here waiting for bus. Some team tak sabar decided to hike the whole way back to french village. My team leader decided no more running as we knew the distance too far (4-5K) and uphill some more. After waiting like a goddamn 1 hour, finally 2 bus. All kemek in, and like 15 minutes later passed a team tat decided to hike the whole way up 45 minutes ago.

Back at the french village, finally get to play a event. Filled the holed container game. We were required to fill a long cylinder container tat got small hole around it with water. So we had to close as much hole with our finger, while someone scoop water like cray from the swimming pool and pour to the top of this container. We managed to overflow the container in under 5+ minutes and thus ended our "torture race".

After this event, we check in to our room. I was bunked together with another work collegue from Klang, Setia Alam. However due to room availability (someone no come), he was given a "suite" to stay instead. Dinner was something everyone was looking forward to. And while dinner, the event "Got talent" was held. 5 daring participants... 1st was a group of 4 people band playing mushy song, so-so lar. 2nd was a crappy standup comedy, daring but "super duper" lame. 3rd was one of my explorace team mate playing a 1 band solo with his guitar, very good. 4th a magic show, ok la, I mean the chick playing the assistance... LOL. Last was my former team leader, demonstrating Aikido!!? Best performance of the nite, as it had a nice blend of Aikido demonstration and jokes. For the demo, had one my collegue to play the attacker. My team lead then at the shouting of my other collegues to "KILL HIM", proceed to apply a arm lock and make his submit on the floor. Then at the crazy cheer for one particular collegue to join the demo, this nutcase actually went up for a impromptu smackdown! Everyone was making joke for him to use his chinese kungfu (mou ying kheuk, wing chun, etc) to fight aikido. But at last, was easily subdue by my team lead in the same hand lock. Not surprising, my team lead came up 1st place in the "got talent" event.

Then nite came, and I join in a collegue self organized booze session at the poolside. Played some card game to see who kena minum. Escaped unscrathed, but one collegue really kena kau kau. Around 12.15 decided to hit the slack.

I awaken to the sound of early morning by my aching neck and shoulder. My trap was pulling my shoulders making it quite pain. Anyway, physical pain is nothing much to shout about compared to another type of pain, so I bite my lips and endured this pain. Had a pretty decent breakfast, then proceed to checkout from the hotel. Then a LONG + BORING bus ride back to the center of multimedia and technology aka Cybergagal.

The end of one journey, the start of another... After the bus finally arrived at my ofis at around 11am, I then proceed on my small adventure to take a series of buses to get back home... That however is a tale for another time.

Overall a pretty fun team building, but for me it was plagued by my neck pain and heart pain.

Neck pain

Dear bloggie,

Messed up my neck today... Today yoga class was doing the head stand (Balance ur whole body upside down on the crown of ur head with some support from hand). 2nd time I do this pose, but 1st time I managed to enter the baby headstand pose. Didn't feel any pain when in pose, but after bath walau... Pain when twist neck left, right or down. I think my neck muscle still not strong enuff to handle the load of my bodyweight.

Overall, a suxor day... Monk Inc all busy or lazy to go out, so I had to solo lepak at Sunway piramid. Wanted to buy a new tshirt and polo tee, but couldn't find any tat I liked. So I ended up spending most of my time in the bowling alley, watching young kiddies bowl (Selangor MSSJ). Damn envy see these kids throw hook ball. I been trying to throw a hook for a few sessions de, but not enuff skrew one. I think I finally know why... When raise the arm back, I noticed these kids got turn their arm like a cockskrew before firing the ball. Think this extra motion will give the ball the extra skrew for the ball to hook one. Next bowling session, will test it out.

Not my day

Dear bloggie,

Today is definitely not my day.

Work was shitty... My task to make the s/w i18n compatible just keep revealing hidden issues. I first had to deal with converting the combo box items which initially was just a array of string to a array of key values. The key value is required so I can have a key which will serve as a label to display in the UI while the value will be... err... value la... After quite a bit refactoring of the current structure, managed to solve tat, however popup other issues. One is a bug which suddenly appeared. It seems there's some backend engine refactoring, which results in the business object which I need to do my processing to be replaced instead by a proxy object... KNN!!! Since the framework was using reflection to do the business object and UI binding, u can imagine the amount of crap this proxy object is causing... First of all, I can't cast this proxy object to the object I want. Second, I can't even access any of my original methods in the business object to grab the values out... So I having a blocker, how the f*ck can I grab the value out to render in ui layer leh!? Refactor also no see if got affect other ppl one meh... Damn tiu... Last of all, I suddenly realize that the printing of these business object will also f*cked up if i18n. Tis is cause the current printing coding is directly grab the value assigned to the business object. In other words, for printing, I must add some code to detect if this property is a combo box or not, then if combo box, need do mapping to from value to label. So many problem... Lucky, I just now while gyming thought of a way to solve this problem. As for the proxy one, I have no idea at all on how to solve it, coz tat object has no direct access to the real object and this object is control by the framework guys...

To compound my lousy day, I bought a small gift for someone since it's her birthday a few days ago. I gave it to her, but sadly she decline it. I already know no chance, yet somehow I just want to give her a birthday present... I never imagine when she decline it, it still hurts...

Running Rant #1

Dear bloggie,

Inspired by the book "Born to Run" and the kwai lou trainer from SCKLM clinic, I'm trying out barefoot running...

There is this believe that running barefoot is actually less injury prone compared to running with the high tech cutting edge modern shoes we are so accustom to wearing. The logic: modern day running shoes, are equipped with a ultimate cushion at the heel which soften the impact when we land. This ultimately can lead to us actually landing on our heel when we run (land on heels = braking effect = bad bad bad) and also as we rely on this cushioning, some muscle around the ankle becomes weaken.

Running barefoot indirectly solve both of these problems. First of all, when we run barefooted, we tend to use a different running form. I experimented with this and can confirm, we will tend to take smaller strides (shorter steps distance), we also tend to land more on the ball of the feet instead of the heel (painful to land here barefooted). Besides that, we also will take lighter steps as ramming our leg into the ground like we normally do while barefooted is painful. Also without the cushioning on the heel, our muscle near our heel will be able to develop to endure more impact. More muscle = more protection.

The creed for running barefooted is:

"Think Easy, Light, Smooth, and Fast. You start with easy, because if that's all you get, that's not so bad. Then work on light. Make it effortless, like you don't give a shit how high the hill is or how far you've got to go. When you've practiced that so long that you forget you're practicing, you work on making it smoooooooth. You won't have to worry about the last one - you get those three, and you'll be fast." - Caballo Blanco, Born to Run.

Dear bloggie,

About a year ago, when I first coded my first module... I was wondering wtf the code I copy and paste so many resource bundle codes to get the string for the labels for the UI. I tak kisah la, and proceed to hardcode the string in the code itself coz lazy wanna add a Bundle.properties + etc... After almost 1/2 year down the road, I thought to myself, "I'd sure pity the poor soul that gonna have to convert these hardcoded strings (not mine onli ok, my team mates also sometimes pang sai like tis one) to comply with internalization."

Today, I learn that paybacks is indeed a b*tch! During spring planning, I was assigned to the "My Gawd" task to fix any parts of the studio that has these hardcoded strings! TNS! MCH! CCB! Niaseng, I think got around 20+ components I need check one by one where got hardcoded string... I mainly fear is that if I changed these string values to read from Bundle files, it will screw up the business object values stored in db. Like for instance drop down, I can't just use the values directly from the drop down anymore coz the values will be in different language, so backend logic thing will screw up especially string comparison. Really amkhan liao lah... Already panic mode...

So, I got 9 days to clear this "My Gawd" task along with 4 minor tasks. My strategy is to quickly clear the 4 minor tasks (3 user story + 1 bug fix) in the next 3 days, so I got the remaining 6 days to work on the "Gawd Damn" task. I predict I won't be able to finish it in time and probably need to carry forward to next sprint.
