Push yourself to the limit

Dear bloggie,

My fourth boot camp session was held in Padang Merbok, just opposite of Lake Garden. Only 3 campers came this time around, I understand quite a number campers fell ill. 3 campers, 3 trainers... Not a bad thing really, each of us practically get a personal trainer. Today run was a 4.8K run around Padang Merbok route. A route with a nice mixture of flat and hilly terrain. I was pushed by my trainer, Vicky to really go at it. I ran at a pace above my normal running pace. The trainer also corrected my running technique, mainly my hand position. I often run like tis:

It seems my hand should be placed higher around my chest level. The trainer also explain I should relax my shoulder and swing my hands back and forth naturally according to my body's natural running rhythm. He also told me I hunchback/sag too much during running hence wasting a lot of my energy. I should run with my chest proud.

At the final stretch, I was really punishing every single muscle in my fatigue body as the trainer keep pushing me to finish the run strong. My breath was ravaged, body fatigued, leg pumped with too much acid lactic yet I was still running at a pace I typically burnt out after 5 minutes. This is a powerful arsenal in a runner's gauntlet, "Mind over Body". I finished in 29 minutes, gasping for air at the end yet my mind was already experiencing the so called "runner's high".

Frankly speaking, I doubt I could have ran non-stop at that pace if I wasn't encourage/pushed by the trainer. I probably would have taken several walking breaks. Hence, why I think I lack the attitude to "keep pushing" during training.

I learned a few new things too this session. First, on my breathing problem when I run. I tend to have problem breathing smoothly when I run. Doesn't matter what pace I run, you will hear me gasping for air. The trainer say it's quite common to have this problem, the fix is to run more regularly (I been running 3 year yet still have tis problem). The trainer advise me to maybe get one of those watches that can monitor my heart rate, so I can learn to control my heart rate better. Another thing is if you have cramps after your run, you might consider taking glucose after running. I also receive some feedback from the trainer on my running ability, he say my speed is ok and have a quite consistent pacing. He told me I could probably with some more training do a 50 minutes for a 10K (My PB for 10K is 56 minutes).

After the run, we do the weekly ritual of drills... Pushup, Situp, Burpee, Squat, Jumping Squat, Step up. At set 2, my leg was overdose on acid lactic after the burpee. I struggle to complete the Squat, Jumping Squat and Step up. Imagine trying to drag a lifeless leg to move and you can imagine how it was at that moment, when the trainer was keep shouting to keeping going when my leg was already not responding to my mind (It's not the case the leg is pain so you don't want to move it but the leg is totally not responding to the mind instruction). The reason for keep pushing here besides improving one physical is too built up a better mental strength. The trainer explain these drills are really a test of mental rather that physical. I managed to survive set 2. But I gave up doing set 3 as I felt like puking (NEVER booze at the night before a serious drill) and giddy.

So here I am, tired and hurting from 2 cramping calves. Trying to capture the exhilaration I experience from pushing myself to the limit. The biggest lesson I learn for the day perhaps is I'm lacking the attitude to "Push myself to the limit" during training.

New year, new depression

Dear bloggie,

This is perhaps the worst start of new year for these couple of years. I'm not sure why, but I just can't gear up... My morale is damn low. Can't run cause of injury, can't workout due to body fatigue, can't lepak cause other kaki all f*ckin slackin at home only to on monday b*cth to me bout how sienz la tis and tat, can't move on coz I dunno why...

Trying to plan something to do for my CNY holiday, else will be damn boring slacking at home. Planning to ride train up to Penang to do this year's annual Penang trip solo. Never before have I travel solo, maybe it's time to achieve yet another badge in my Lone Ranger achievement board.

Also my sis has come back from the land of under. Won't be going back there it seems. Will be finding work in Malaysia. Instance problem, car. My father told me I need to buy new car as my sister requested from the Myvi. So I'm torn between buying yet another Myvi or try out the new Proton Saga. Saga cheaper and I heard more reliable, but I already grew too fond of Myvi's @$$less setup which makes parking such a breeze. Also I heard Saga's fuel consumption damn sux with Campro Engine. One thing I don't like about Myvi is the lack of bonnet space. What to do, stupid gomen with their stupid TAXES.

2011, I ponder what lies ahead for me. I actually quite enjoy working at my current company but a part of me actually want so resigns. Dun eat where you shit, maybe it's true but would I have been better off just KCKL? Another 4 months, then see how la. I often forget that the turnover rate is quite high in my industry.

Pain

Dear bloggie,

Feel pain... Everywhere... Was planning to take "MC" on Wed since no work at all in office, where know really fall sick. Had headache and terrible joint pain, doctor check say no fever but say my blood pressure high, borderline. Ugh, stress till blood pressure koed!? Anyway since sick de and MC, decided to sekali jus go checkup on my left shin. The prev day (Tues) really got some pain while running.

Went to the Sport Specialist in Subang. Made appointment at 4pm one, mana tau half way there de, they call say need postphone to 5.30pm. Tiu. No other choice since just cross 2nd toll de, go lepak at Subang Parade. Unfortunately for me, my body pain suddenly decided to naik hiao tis time, really can collapse. Lucky got sofa in Subang Parade, crash and took a short rest there.

5.30pm de, go see doctor. Doctor ask for patient history, ask question like do wat sport one, how long run de, recently got ramp up running, run where, pain when started, etc. Then he ask me stand one two legs touching. He remarked my left leg abit more curved than my right (aka tang kee peng). Then try to pin point the area of pain on my left shin. Finally he say need do 2 test, xray and ultrasound scan.

Xray is done to check if got any bone fracture on my shin (Wat I really fear the most) while ultrasound scan to check for muscle inflammation. I done ultrasound before so nothing new, just put some goo on ur leg, the use the machine on ur leg to scan. Xray meanwhile is first time for me. I lie down on a white light lit bed, then the doctor point the machine to ur leg and *wham*... Nuke u... Make sure the doctor aims is correct lor, else he nuke wrong, kill dunno how many thousand "berudu"...

After the test, doctor see results, muscle got some inflammation but nothing too serious. Xray meanwhile doctor say no problem, no crack or abnormalities (though, not 100% guarantee one), I sigh in relief. Doctor prescribe some ubat to sapu and makan & advise I ICE my leg everyday and take at least 1 month off running. He say I can try cycling, rowing or the eclipse machine in gym within this 1 month. I ask if I can still do light running, he say can but the injury will not heal till properly rested. (Hehehe... bootcamp still on la). As for causes for my injury, the doctor noted several possible causes which are overtrain, running on wrong surface or joggin shoe.

Then came the next pain, the whole cost of treatment was a whopping RM400... OMGWTF... The ultrasound scan cost the most, tagged at RM150!? Tiu...

Go home de, took a short nap. 8pm woke up cause need see client's programmer. Diu, reach venue at 8.30, no bayang of client programmer. Phone him, he say he thought appointment was at 10pm. Super TIU!!! Somemore told me need integrate with his module by Friday, he say very simple one just do a http request. I asked him gimme the API lar, he say will email me later. Then I ask him gimme a test account also, he say tomolo (3pm but 4pm+ onli upload) only can have. CB lang, fast forward to now, seem to me the system is rush do one, so many bugs. Simple parameter grabbing also can wrong... Tiu betul... Somemore the API, incomplete one, I ask how to pass point, onli the bagger resend me another API with that parameter, somemore not working one the parameter... Syit... Puke blood... Just when I want to hang myself due to my lame programming skill, people like tis always remind myself I dun sux tat bad.

Tomolo is last day for my team, as team will officially change on Monday. New team leader with 2 new members. Sigh... Just when I was already grew comfortable and enjoying myself in this team... Sux... Tomolo will have another pain, I thought I already overcame it, but it just keep coming and going, especially when I see her. Why can't just sieh sam...

Very pain la, this week...

Boot Camp #2

Dear bloggie,

Yesterday running boot camp was a pretty intense affair.

Round 2 of this running boot camp was held in Taman Tasik Metropolitan, Kepong. So I had to drive around 50+K to get the venue -_-'. I overslept a bit due to a rather sleepless nite due to a stupid stunt I pulled on Friday evening, but somehow my internal alarm clock (abnormal indeed) woke me up at around 5.30am!

After bathing and "henshin" to my running gear, it was already 6am. I had a short panic, as I had less than an hour to get to the venue, which I vaguely know the location. Anyway, flying car at 6am on A Saturday morning was rather nice, no car = no traffic. Reached Damansara area at around 6.20am. The tricky part was after the Kepong toll. According to the instructions, I was to drive till the big Batu Caves roundabout before making a u turn. I have no idea where tis Batu Caves roundabout is, so I just hoped there is sufficient sign boards to help me out. I drove straight the whole way till I reach a big roundabout. Lucky for me, got a small signboard "Bulatan Batu Caves", so I make my u turn. Next, I was to stick to the left and exit left. So the next left, I exit... and ended up in a recycling center >_<. I get into big road again, and exit at the next left. All black, only a half open gate. I drove in, as saw a the car park. I parked my car, and jog across to a small building with a guard, and verified indeed, tis is Taman Tasik Metropolitan...

I waited awhile in the dark, till I saw another camper of tis boot camp. Later saw the orange banner along the trainers. Slowly, one by one campers arrived. Quite a number didn't make it to this weeks training, as I understand there is a Indian praying thingy on that day. So, we were introduced to another trainer, dunno wat name... (I SUX at names, ok). Also got a guest runner, Tee from Brooks. Tee was invited so we campers could ask him tips/hints on getting a running shoe.

Did our routine warm up and started running lor. Ran at an average speed pace, a bit faster than my normal run pace. Run till reach a stair case, UGH! Same like last week, up and down twice... A bit worn out, but lucky leg no problem. Run run, suddenly trainer take detour to a open space and ask do some push up, squats and etc. Do 2 sets, continue running... This would repeat itself for the remaining of the run. Run for a distance, stop do a couple of exercises. Finally till do 1 full circle around the park de, just run the whole way for lap 2. Only near the end of the 2nd lap, I had to stop running to recover. Still somehow managed to keep up with the trainer and top pack. Finish the run in 1 hour 4 minutes...

While RNR, some of us shoot some question to Tee on the running shoes. According to Tee, good brands for running shoes are Brooks, Mizuno and New Balance. He say it's rather hard to go wrong with these 3 brands unless you got the wrong shoe for your foot type. Also he noted most of campers where well equiped as most were wearing Mizuno, Brooks and New Balance (saya and 1 of the trainers, high five new balance kaki!) shoes. Also Tee told us typically runners have 2 shoes, 1 for training and another for the real run. One of the trainers reveal he actually has 3 pairs.

So after our short breather, as expected it's time for the circuit workout. This time got 2 sets of 5-6 exercises. 1st set, each exercise (Push up, Sit up, Burpee, Step Up, Roll Up!?, Squat, Jump Up 1/2 Squat) do for 30 seconds. 2nd set, each exercise (Push Up, Sit Up, Step Up, XXX (Forgot wat 2 more exercise is de)) do for 45 sec. By the 2nd set step up, I recall my leg feel sore de (too much acid lactic in quads), and by Squat (I think), really went limp. At the final 20 secs was really hard, leg already limp yet I pushed myself to do as many I can still do... And when the trainer say "45"... I crash my bum to the earth...

After resting a while, my mind return to reality and a sense of accomplishment washed over me. I really pushed myself to my limit. Overall the run was above average difficult, but the circuit is tough. Yet again, maybe it's due to lack of training the muscle in endurance which makes this circuit tough. After all, bodybuilders tend to do high resistance + low rep workout instead of this low resistance + high rep workout. Next week, FRIM... Trail running... I already feel my kaki gatal now.

Creep

Dear bloggie,

Yea... Yesterday, really became a creep... Anyway, after today's boot camp run, my mind was clearer and decided to just surrender gracefully. Hence end my campaign... Another failure to my list, sad but can't be helped...

I AM a creep...

Sohai

Dear bloggie,

They say there's a thin line that separate wise and fool. I don't really know which I fall under but here is wat I done...

I told her...

"If you uncomfortable, just please use the 4 magic words 'Lets just be frens'".

Patience never been one of my finer virtues... Neither has being a not so black/white guy...

MFR asked if I had a death wish spewing such garbage to a girl. Maybe I have one... But I guess I rather know the truth no matter how painful it maybe than to live blissfully in ignorance. Yet again, maybe I'm just feed up of being in doubt in the whole thingy... I consulted a few of my advisers on this matter, but I came to the realization that in the end of the day, it's really about being who you really are. Tis question is reflects who I really am and the type of thing I seek in a relationship... True, sometimes we need a bit a dishonesty and compromise for a relationship to work, but if one can't be honest or have the guts to bring up big questions/issues in a relationship, I think it's only a matter of time before the volcano errupts.

Outcome at the moment... Unknown... Didn't really answer me... Yet... Will see in a few days...

Running Boot Camp

Dear bloggie,

I was probably too depressed to think properly, but now too late, already sign up for Running Boot Camp. From wat I seen in their training regime, tis Hooha training is not a Hahaha matter. Everyday (except Friday & Sunday) menu include 45 minute jog then need push up and sit up one. Not sure bout the weekly Saturday session though, but if same like "Zigman Challenge" contest which they claim inspired this boot camp, can really die one lor. 6 Week of hardcore running training... YEAaa... Will finally trained to be a "real" runner... Wat an unexpected way to start my new year...

Mari Kahwin Saya

Dear bloggie,

On Monday, Kamlan! had reported that MFR, who had been married 0 times before, wanted to get married again so that he did not have to be alone for the rest of his life. He said he demand a car from any woman that willing to marry him.

LOL...

Here's the real article:

On Wednesday, Kosmo! had reported that Ahmad, who had been married five times before, wanted to get married again so that he did not have to be alone for the rest of his life. He said he would present a car to any woman willing to marry him.

Wow... Why dun he just find hooker? Assuming the car is around RM40K+, 40000 / 200 = +200 times can go find hooker.

1.11.11

Dear bloggie,

Yea... A pretty decent 1st day for the year 2011. Despite the pretty lame countdown at IOI Boulevard, had a pretty great blast joining the Fun Walk in 1U this morning. With my left shin still under "Recovery" mode, I think I made the right choice to join this walk instead of the Klang 5K run near my house. At a extremely cheapo reg fee of RM10, got a pretty good goodie bag (Nestle finese corn flakes, 1Card voucher, face towel, etc). Not much participants (around 300), and no price moolah too for top finishers, so u dun see any big guns. Cover the 4.5K walk in around a hour time, walked the whole way though some actually ran this walk -_-'. I heard NTV7 was covering this event, make a few "peace" sign to the camera, dunno if will be so lucky to appear in tv ar not.
