Watchmen Movie Verdict

Dear bloggie,

I'd hated it... I dunno wat else to say after seeing the wasted potential this movie failed to delivered. Frankly speaking, I felt the movie screwed up big time on some parts of the movie.

Ok, for those tat come to see tis movie expecting another action packed 300 remake... Boy, u be goin home a disappointed kid. Tis is not an action movie, more of a drama, sorta like Dark Knight style. Alot of talking than action. There are a few action scenes, stylist but little. Another warning, tis is NOT a movie for those kids! VERY violent!

Even the funny parts of the movie is sickening violent to a certain degree. Take for instance a scene where Rorschach goes to the toilet to teach a dwarf a lesson for insulting him. Alot of the people were laughing when Rorschach came out of the toilet and the sound of flushing was heard. I however knew given the sick and violent nature of Rorschach, something sickening had happened to the dwarf and a few seconds later the laughing crowd was send into a stupor silence as the blood started to overflow out from the toilet.

Lets me start my bashing by criticizing the movie for screwing some critical parts of the movie. Take for instance, the critical part where Dr Manhattan rediscover his humanity side... very badly executed!!! The crux speech of "the miracle has occurred" by Dr Manhattan sounded like phony 2 dollar bill to me. Tis speech was supposed to convey to the viewers that there is hope to humanity! But Dr Manhattan sorta like just recite the speech like a robot... Zzz...

2nd thing I would like to bash is the ridiculous costume choice for the 1st generation Watchmen. I know it was done on purpose but really, I hardly failed to understand the satire it was trying to convey.

3rd, Sex, sex, sex. It was simply overdone. If I wanna see sex action I will go see a porn movie dud. This movie could really do without these scene as it sorta drag the movie pace down alot. Common for pete sake, do u even need to show Dr Manhattan threesome some with Silk Spectre!? F*CK!

4th bashing is lack of characterization. While they managed to convey the personality of The Comedian, Dr Manhattan, Rorschach... They really screwed up for the remaining 3. Yea, Ozymandias's lack of characterization till the finale is arguable due to storyline but Nite Owl and Silk Spectre were acting like sex fiends interested onli in laying each other despite the threat of a nuclear war that could wipe up the entire human race through the whole f*ckin movie. Rorshach voice had the detective feel but I felt lack the spiteful feel that he should have considering this character personality. Best characterization ironically belongs to The Comedian, the movie successfully convey The Comedian twisted personality in a believable manner it's sickening to watch at some scenes.

Another thing I would like to point out is the over flooding of information the movie throws at its viewer. It sometimes feel very hard to process all the information the movie is trying to deliver to the viewers. From the death lock state of Cold War between the US and Russia to how each Watchmen came to be, I think it's quite hard to fully comprehend the complex story and it's hidden gems from just one viewing.

Ok, while the movie suffers from the flaws I listed above, the part of the movie tat made me glued to my seat was the amazing dark storyline which was the darkest I seen for a superhero genre. Even the dark knight dark storyline was a pale in comparison to this movie superb storyline. The dark storyline really is up my alley as it really shows the sickening side of humanity. Even the supposedly "heroes" of this movie are really twisted! Take Dr Manhattan for instance, he is arguably the most powerful being in this story and worship as a god, yet his transformation to Dr Manhattan made him to view things from the perceptive of logic only, causing him start losing him empathy touch as a human being. The scene where The Comedian cold blooded killed a Vietnam women pregnant with possibly his own son/daughter in front of Dr Manhattan was simply a stellar scene which display the darkness of the storyline. Dr Manhattan confronted The Comedian on his action, but The Comedian instead rap him by saying:

"Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Pregnant woman. Gunned her down. Bang. And y'know what? You watched me. You coulda changed the gun into steam or the bullets into mercury or the bottle into snowflakes! You coulda teleported either of us to goddamn Australia... but you didn't lift a finger! You don't really give a damn about human beings. I've watched you. You never cared about what her name, Janey Slater, even before you ditched her. Soon you won't be interested in Sally Jupiter's little girl, either. You're driftin' outta touch, Doc. You're turnin' into a flake. God help us all."

Really dark! For me, Rorschach wins my vote as most my favorite Watchmen character due to his viewpoint that things are either white or black, there is no such thing as gray. And evil in his point of view deserves retribution with no compromise. He follows his believes to the extend he was willing to sacrifice himself and others to stay true to his believe. His viewpoint was perhaps the reason why the conclusion in the finale ended in such majestic manner. However sad to say despite the awesome conclusion, the movie was beyond rescue even at that point of the movie.

My rating for tis movie: C, The movie just fell flat... If it wasn't due to the superb storyline, I would easily gave a D to this movie...
